Director’s Chat: Waiting for Summer
Okay, so it was a bit chilly taking the picture on the right for March’s Photo-of-the-Month (http://www.camppepin.org/photo%20galleries/Photo%20of%20the%20Month/March2008Photo.htm), but can we help it if we’re already excited about summer? Not just because we won’t have to shovel any more snow, but because we have met so many of you on the road in February and are eager to finally see everyone here at camp. Registrations have been coming in daily, and some of our summer camp sessions are already or almost full. We also have hired most of our staff for this year, with many of them traveling from overseas places like Australia, England, New Zealand, Spain, and Scotland. This is a lot to look forward to!

Volunteers Needed for the Maple Syrup & Family Fun Day
Old and new staff and volunteers are wanted for our annual Maple Syrup festival at Camp Pepin. Volunteers will want to be at camp at 8:00am to assist in setting up for the event. A volunteer appreciation dinner will follow. If you would be interested in helping out, please contact Scott, the Camp Director, at camp@redwingymca.org, or at 1-715-442-3811. Thank you!
Staff Scoop
- Makenna Klein and Manda Vlasak will be going to Spain for a couple weeks in March. They will be traveling and visiting some of Camp Pepin’s former Spanish CIT’s.
- Krista Kunkel will be starting at the UW School of Nursing next fall and plans on going into Pediatric Nursing after graduation. She has also started the Harry Potter Club at the University and was elected President. (I bet she easily identified the “golden snitch” in February’s Photo-of-the-Month).

Kimmy’s Korner
Hi folks! It’s Kimmy the Kayaker.
Congratulations to Marissa White of Hastings, MN - the winner of my February game - who correctly identified that the “golden snitch” was not supposed to be flying above our 2007 Rails & Trails Biking Campers in February’s Photo-of-the-Month.
Thank you to everyone that played – it was great to hear from you!
My game for March is this:
In honor of camp’s upcoming Maple Syrup & Family Fun Day at the end of this month, I have hidden the picture of the pancakes below somewhere on the Camp Pepin website. Can you find it?

Email your answer to camp@redwingymca.org. A winner will be drawn from the entries with the correct answer, and he or she will receive a YMCA Camp Pepin Beanie Horse from our Camp Store. The winner’s name and the answer will also be posted in Kimmy’s Korner in the Spring Issue of The Lakesider. Anyone can play, including campers, staff, and alumni. Good luck!
