Another Good Summer
Thank you campers, moms, dads, grandparents, and family friends for making 2008 one of Camp Pepin’s most successful enrollment years with many new campers and lots of returning ones. Thank you also to the Camp Staff and to our volunteer Health Care Coordinators for keeping camp safe and fun for all of us. If you haven’t seen the 2009 schedule yet, here it is:
Week 1: June 21-26
Week 2: June 28-July 3
Kickapoo Camp: July 5-8
Week 3: July 12-17
Week 4: July 19-24
Week 5: July 26-31
Week 6: August 2-7
Week 7: August 9-14
We look forward to everyone again at camp!
Camp Almanac: September
The first signs of Fall abound. The Canada geese and tundra swans are flying south almost daily over Lake Pepin and down the Mississippi to warmer places. Cooler nights have dropped the shoreline temperature of the lake considerably from a month ago. The sumacs have already turned a bright crimson color, and a few of the maples and oaks are now showing a bit of yellow.

Kimmy’s Korner
Hi folks! It’s Kimmy the Kayaker. Surely you remember me sitting up on the mantle in the Dining Hall during all those summer meals. (Thank you to all of those who sang so beautifully to me during Sneaky – you did a great job!)
At the end of every newsletter, I will have a game or a contest where you can win a camp prize.
My game for September is a trivia question:
What is the name of Camp Pepin’s pontoon boat? (Hint: If you don’t remember, a look through this summer’s weekly pictures in camp’s online Photo Gallery will help you. Here is the link: http://www.camppepin.org/photogallery.htm)
Email your answer to camp@redwingymca.org. A winner will be drawn from the entries with the correct answer, and he or she will receive a YMCA Camp Pepin Keychain Animal (bear, moose, or frog) from our Camp Store. The winner’s name and the answer will also be posted in Kimmy’s Korner in the October Issue of The Lakesider. Anyone can play, including campers, staff, and alumni. Good luck!
