Summer Issue 2011

Summer is Here!

The sights and sounds of summer are back at Camp Pepin.  The staff are training for the first campers, who will arrive on June 19th.  Some weeks are already full, but there are still openings later in the summer.  If you know a camper that would like to attend, contact Joetta Oien, the Camp Office Manager, at 651-388-4724 or at joien@redwingymca.org.

Meet People From All Around the World at Camp

Every summer, Camp Pepin hires staff from countries all around the globe.  Our international staff get temporary work visas so that we can hire them.  This summer, we have staff from Australia, England, New Zealand and Scotland.  We also work with the YMCA of Spain in hosting Spanish campers and volunteers during the summer at camp.

Stay at Camp This Fall and Winter

If you would like to schedule a retreat at our camp on the shores of beautiful Lake Pepin, please contact Joetta Oien at the Red Wing YMCA office at 651-388-4724 or at joien@redwingymca.org.  Our cabins are comfortable and heated, a multitude of outdoor activities are available, and a family-style meal service can be provided.  We look forward to having you out at Camp Pepin!

Find us on Facebook

Camp Pepin has moved into the era of social networking!  Look up our “YMCA Camp Pepin” page on Facebook.  Feel free to post to our wall – it’s fun to see what all of our camp friends are doing and what memories they have of their days on Lake Pepin.

Kimmy’s Korner

Hi folks! It’s Kimmy the Kayaker.

My game for the last issue was this:

Two of the 2011 staff members (listed as you scroll down the Meet the Staff page of Camp Pepin’s website (http://www.camppepin.org/meetthestaff.htm) have first names that are palindromes.  Who are they?

Rylan Shilts of Red Wing, MN, and

Amelia Weir of Northfield, MN, both submitted the correct answer and will receive a YMCA Camp Pepin water bottle.  They knew that a palindrome is a word that is spelled the same backwards and forwards (such as “madam”), and the two staff members with palindrome first names are Anna Hennessy and Hannah Skitt.

My game for this issue is to challenge everyone to have an enjoyable and safe summer.  See you at camp!
